New Year - New Actions, Same Attitude?
It has been many months since I have written a blog. The beginning of the year marks a new season in the focus of the blogs I will be writing.
Teaching and Learning ... what exactly does that mean? To teachers? To Students?
Merriam Webster dictionary defines teaching as "to impart the knowledge of or to make known and accepted". Learning is also defined as "to gain knowledge or understanding of skill in by student, instruction or experience"
In both definitions, knowledge is the key concept. There is an exchange of knowledge, one imparts and one gains but neither definition identifies who delivers or who gains the knowledge. I think that this is an important fact to remember when we begin this new school year with expectations and enthusiasm around our schools.
It must be clear and understood that teaching and learning is not a set idea. It should be understood that both the teacher and the student can impart knowledge as well as gain knowledge. The relationship between the teacher and the student should be one where each desires and expects to learn from one another.
Being open minded and flexible. Teaching and Learning is not one sided.
